Finding Joy in Simplicity and Play

As a child, pretend was my escape. It was how I coped with life’s chaos—my mother’s manic episodes, my dad’s drunken retreats. My sister and I would dive into fantasy worlds, creating elaborate Barbie kingdoms, crafting potions as witches, or building entire villages for our “people.” Those moments weren’t just games; they were a portal to magic—a way to find beauty and peace in the simplest things.

Reconnect with Your Magic: Finding Joy in Simplicity and Play

Recently, I came across a quote from A Memory of Nightshade by A.L. Knorr that struck me deeply:

“I think maybe some who suffer in life learn survival skills that others don’t learn. Like how to find peace even in the center of conflict. I didn’t have a great childhood. One of the ways I coped was to pretend I was someone else, somewhere else. I don’t mean another fae, I mean another form: an earthworm, a bird, a mouse, or a beetle. I always picked humble lifeforms because I find simple beauty in the way they live. They were safe forms to be because they were beneath notice of my tormentors, but they are also the closest to the earth and its gentle ways.”

There’s something profound in the idea of becoming a beetle, a bird, or an earthworm—small, humble creatures that live close to the earth. These beings live simply, without ego or ambition, deeply connected to the rhythms of nature. As a child, I understood that instinctively. Humble lifeforms offered me grounding, safety, and a sense of quiet power.

Now, as an adult, I realize that same grounding magic is what I crave most—but it feels so much harder to access. Life is noisy and demanding. The cruelty of the world, the relentless stress of everyday life, and the pressure to keep up can leave us running on empty. But what if we could step back and reconnect with our inner magic—the simple, quiet beauty of being?

What If You Were Your Magic?

Take a moment to ask yourself:
Who or what would you be if you allowed yourself to live in your magic?

Would you be a bird, flying free and untethered? A lonicera vine, spreading beauty gently and unknowingly? Or perhaps a beetle, nestled close to the earth, feeling its steady hum and finding peace in its simplicity?

What would happen if you gave yourself even just one minute a day to play in that magic?

For me, reconnecting with magic is about slowing down and loving the process of just being. It’s about embracing the humble and quiet parts of ourselves, rediscovering the beauty we’ve carried all along.

Let’s Explore Together

If this resonates with you, I invite you to join me for a virtual tea ceremony—a moment to slow down, ground yourself, and connect with your inner magic. Let’s pause together, sip tea, and remember what it feels like to play, pretend, and simply be.

Send me a message if you’d like the details. I’d love to share this space with you.

Let’s find the joy in simplicity and the magic in being alive. 🌿🍵
