Turning Imposter Syndrome Into Your Superpower

There was a time in my career when I felt completely unqualified for the role I’d been given. I was working at IBM when they moved most of my team to another organization. They still reported to me, but my role changed dramatically overnight.

The biggest surprise? I was suddenly put in charge of the Data Science team — brilliant minds with PhDs, statistical and mathematical wizards.

What I Want: A Personal Shift Back to Alignment

Here’s the truth: I knew nothing about data science.
I had struggled with math my entire life. I’d even nicknamed statistics “sadistics” because of how much I disliked it.

My first thought was…
Who am I to lead these people?

Naming the Shadow

The shadow voice inside me said:

“You’re only here because you’re the last technical leader left.”
“You’re not smart enough.”
“You don’t belong here.”

That shadow was loud. My determination and my magic was louder.

Reclaiming the Light

Instead of giving in to the doubt, I decided to treat the challenge like a puzzle.
Piece by piece, I built my knowledge. I journaled gratitude to my higher self every day and asked for what I needed. If I needed to hire someone, I wrote gratitude for the right person being guided to me (lesson learned: be very clear on who those “right people” are).

And something surprising happened:
I realized that imposter syndrome wasn’t always the enemy.

A friend told me recently, “Imposter syndrome is your superpower.”
I’ve learned he’s right.

It can either paralyze you making it hard to even get out of bed or it can drive you to learn, grow, and approach challenges with humility and gratitude.

A Simple Morning Practice

If you’re feeling weighed down by self-doubt, try this:

  1. Name the shadow – Write down what you don’t want in your life that makes you feel less than you truly are.
  2. Flip it – Rewrite it as how you do want to feel and be each day.
  3. Anchor it – Each morning, write or say gratitude for already feeling and being that way.

How I Help My Clients Through This

When my clients feel stuck in self-doubt or fear, we start by finding the exact place they’re blocked using Human Design. Then, through InnerSpeak, we clear the old patterns that created the stuck energy. This makes space for clarity, confidence, and forward movement.

This is the heart of my Unlock & Align session — where we move the shadow out of the way so you can reclaim your light.
